The Taylor Swift guide to Diversity and Inclusion- The Allyance Newsletter
The Allyance newsletter provides many useful references on recruitment, diversity and inclusion.
Morning everyone,
💓 I have been a tech recruiter for the last 10 years and Evelyne Notton is one of the women who inspires me the most. Evelyne worked with The Allyance and we helped her get hired as VP Engineering.
Being her humble self, Evelyne might not realize that other engineers, especially women, view her as their role model. Yet, only 2% of European CTOs are women.
In Evelyne's interview, you will discover that :

✅ The Allyance newsletter provides many useful references on recruitment, diversity and inclusion. What follows are some thought-provoking articles about Chief Diversity Officers in American tech companies, about the way towards more efficient DEI policies, articles with tips to improve diverse hiring and - yes, many secrets! …. 🎼 Ready for it?
🎼 Cruel Summer…
🎢 The Rise and Fall of the Chief Diversity Officer ?
In the US, thousands of Chief Diversity Officers have been laid off over the last year during the tech sector’s shake out, reports the Wall Street Journal. And once fired, it takes them more time to find a new job, as company bosses are increasingly defiant. Even colleagues are perceived as not so supportive, which is related to the climate of job insecurity.
“People are more resistant to company-backed efforts to advance diversity when they are worried about their own jobs, whether because of impending layoffs or disruptions from AI, says David Kenny, chief executive of Nielsen, the media-ratings company.”

👏 4 ways companies can make real progress on diversity, equity and inclusion
The online media The European Sting, in collaboration with the World Economic Forum, outlined that the polycrisis we all experience particularly affects the most marginalized groups. Thankfully, there are ways companies can counter the negative effects of the current job market volatility and economic crisis:
Embrace the geography of diversity: be “glocal”
Implementing a whole of business approach: DEI is for everyone all year long
Leveraging technology for digital inclusion: be careful with your tools
Building external ecosystems for DEI impact: it’s not just about the company
“DEI strategies need to be adaptable, while still producing results that meet regional demands and induce accountability towards driving sustained change.”

⚒️ Reskilling can help you achieve your DEI goals
In her latest blog article published on Medium, expert Sarah Cordivano gives a few tips on furthering DEI policies when confronted with limited resources in-house and the lack of a diverse pool of external candidates. She advises “reskilling” to solve both issues (and more):
“Reskilling is the act of training employees or potential employees in new skill sets and readying them for a new role. Particularly in tech, reskilling offers opportunities for those previously without access to technical education or training to fully train and ultimately transition into a technical role such as software engineering or data analysis.”

🎢 Scaling an engineering team from 0 to 100
Like Didier Caroff, our very own Caroline gave a Masterclass at Ada Tech School two weeks ago. While Caroline introduced pragmatic solutions to enable inclusion in the workplace to students in Nantes and Paris, Didier explained how he grew a team from 0 to 100 within as VP Engineering at Akeneo. A special 💗 at the Gordon Ramsay slide!
Managers are not just people managers
Maximize value over output and culture over process
Continuously adapt as you grow
