🎤 The Divas issue: a splash of pop music to fight for and celebrate inclusion
The Allyance newsletter provides many useful references on recruitment, diversity and inclusion.
Good morning readers !
Welcome to this special edition of our newsletter, where we celebrate the power of inclusion through pop music. Because pop music has a unique ability to bring people together and amplify diverse voices, we decided to start each section with a song from a female artist who has used her platform to promote diversity, equity, and unity.
After all, it’s not because we do serious work and advocacy that we can’t have a bit of fun along the way. Now here you are, read on and enjoy!
✅ The Allyance newsletter provides many useful references on recruitment, diversity and inclusion. Here are some articles about stuttering, compensation, how to be an ally, moving from academia to the industry and xenophobia in France.
😊 DEI should include people who stutter
Nicki Minaj - Starships
Did you know that a group of 80 million people is missing from the DEI discussions? According to the Stuttering Foundation, more than 80 million people worldwide stutter, which is about 1% of the population. In the United States, that's over 3 million Americans who stutter. In France, Doctolib’s CEO (Stanislas Niox-Chateau) has always been outspoken about his stutter. Yet, he is an exception and we can only regret it. This article from Fast Company describes perfectly what is at stake here.
“Conversations about stuttering remain rare in workplaces. “When I talk, people will sometimes think I’ve made a mistake, or they’ll laugh because they don’t know how to react to my stutter,” Rodriguez says. “Employers’ focus on DEI should also include fluency disorders so people know how to engage appropriately when they meet someone like me—it doesn’t need to be an awkward experience.”

🎬 5 Tips For Being An Ally
Beyoncé - ALIEN SUPERSTAR
Chescaleigh got me at 2’14 when using the example of Destiny’s Child. She said that if an ally was in a girl group, the person would not be a lead singer or the second lead singer! Her video was on spot for this pop music edition.
Understand your privilege
Listen and do your homework
Speak up
You’ll make mistakes! Apologize when you do
Ally is a verb
🤩 From academia to the industry : Fabien Teytaud
Lady Gaga - Bad Romance
I invite you to read Fabien’s interview to better understand how The Allyance supported his job search. He used to be a Machine Learning academic. He reached out to me to secure a move to the industry. Even though he lives in the North of France, we found him a full remote position and he got promoted 2 weeks ago as a Data Science Manager at CybelAngel.
“At the very beginning, my academic profile seemed so far away from engineering to me. For Caroline, it was never a problem: she immediately grasped my career aspirations. The step I took was difficult and she knew how to reassure me with her kindness and availability.”
